| Stretching from the Santa Barbara City College on the east and extending two and one-half miles to Arroyo Burro County Beach Running west along the bluffs and beaches of Santa Barbara, the Mesa is a family community of homes many of which are close to Leadbetter Beach, Shoreline Park, and Hendry's Beach.
The Spanish word meaning “table”, Mesa, has been given to this flat area of elevated land fronting the ocean along Santa Barbara’s southwestern border.
Leadbetter Beach features a well known surfing point where the beach gives way to cliffs. Shoreline Park offers opportunities to walk, jog, take the kids to a playground, or have a picnic overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Dolphins can be seen playing in the waves almost daily at Hendry's Beach. Beachside restaurants are found at both beach locations. The 70+ acre Douglas Family Preserve, known to locals as the Wilcox property, has walking trails that offer a quiet get away. Hang gliders take off daily from the bluffs adjacent to Hendry's Beach, and can be seen during the day, "hanging" off the bluffs just over the ocean.
The Mesa has it's own collection of unique shops, restaurants, and businesses. Santa Barbara City College also calls the Mesa home and is one of the finest city colleges in California, and it certainly has some of the best views of the harbor, pier, and breakwater.
